Jhapa, 16 Magh । The prestigious and popular football tournament of eastern Nepal, Jhapa Gold Cup, is set to hold its 7th edition from 24th Magh to 4th Falgun at Domalal Rajwanshi Stadium. This year’s edition is dedicated to former president Vinod Basnet, who played a leading role in making the 5th and 6th editions historic successes.
The tournament’s main sponsor is Agro by Foods Pvt. Ltd.’s Extreme Energy Drinks. This edition will be organized as an international invitational knockout football tournament.
Participating teams include Jhapa 11 Football Club, Church Boys United, Tribhuvan Army FC, APF FC, Nepal Police FC, Machhindra FC, Laliguras Association Nepal, Pokhara, Royal Thimphu College, Bhutan, Singling Sporting Club, India, and N. Penang FC, Malaysia.
The champion team will receive NPR 1.5 million, while the runner-up will be awarded NPR 750,000. The Most Valuable Player will be awarded a motorcycle. Cash prizes will also be given for top scorer, best goalkeeper, best coach, and Player of the Match for each game.
The tournament is expected to be conducted safely, orderly, and grandly at an estimated cost of NPR 15 million. Organizers have appealed to industrialists, businesspersons, journalists, and media houses for support and collaboration.
Football fans across eastern Nepal and beyond are expected to watch the live broadcast, making it a widely viewed event both nationally and internationally.
